Cardit Card Safety |
 |
Use your credit cards carefully to reduce the risk of losing them or having your money or identity stolen. While this is an online store, here we also list safety tips for when you are not shopping online:
- When you get a new card in the mail, check the envelope with care. If you think the envelope was opened, let the creditor know. Ask the creditor to cancel the card and issue you a new one.
- When shopping online, make sure that the website's URL (address) starts with https:// before entering your credit card information.
- Always make sure that when a site uses the https protocol that they have a valid SSL Certificate issued for that site. When a site has a valid SSL Certificate they should provide a link to their certificate authority allowing you to view their certificate. Here are some common Certificate Authorities (CAs):
- VeriSign
- Thawte (a VeriSign subsidiary)
- GeoTrust (Recently Aquired by VeriSign)
- Comodo
- Go Daddy
- Entrust
- CAcert.org
- StartCom Certification Authority
- Do not make credit card purchases online using public computers (such as at a public library) unless you are totally sure that the computer has not been tampered with and you know how to clear the browser's cache and know how to delete form field and search entries (auto completion).
- Keep your credit cards with you.
- Carry your credit cards so you know where they are located. This way you will know if they are all there.
- Don't carry credit cards loose.
- Carry only those cards you think you will need when you travel. It is easier to lose them on a trip than at home. Put cards you do not plan to use in a safe deposit box or other safe place while you are gone
- Keep a list of the names and account numbers of your credit cards in a safe place.
